RENDEZVOUS WITH YESTERDAY by Harold Jack Bloom
Story by Irwin Allen
Dr. Tony Newman, an experimental subject in the Time Tunnel, tries to change
the course of history when he lands aboard the deck of the Titanic.
When the Time Tunnel Project faces scrapping, Dr. Tony Newman volunteers to
be an experimental subject. Before anyone can stop him, he sets the controls
and is sent off through time. Tumbling onto the deck of an ocean liner, he
finds a life preserver labeled - Titanic; astounded he rushes off to find
Captain Smith. Meanwhile, at the Time Tunnel, Dr. Doug Phillips, Dr. Ann
MacGregor and Dr. Swain work to locate Tony, finally discovering him on the
liner by following the sound of the ship’s bells. Aboard the ship, Tony is
having great difficulty persuading the Captain to change his course; Smith at
first thinks he is mad, then becoming convinced that he's a spy from an enemy
steamship line, has him imprisoned. With Tony located, Doug goes through the
Time Tunnel to his rescue and after freeing him, the two use the wireless to
summon help. Smith still remains unconvinced though until the ship hits the
iceberg late that night. Asking the men how they knew this would happen, they
only tell him the extremity of his position, then plunge into rescue
operation. Doug and Tony are extracted just as the ship goes down and are
then separately hurled forward into time. Tony lands on a desert, just in
front of the Project, but the time is ten years ago and those working the
controls move him back in time before he’s taken for a spy. Rejoined with
Doug, they land in a jungle where they face a prehistoric monster.
