THE DAY THE SKY FELL DOWN (or THE DAY THE SKY FELL IN) by Ellis St. Joseph
The Time Travellers are trapped in Pearl Harbor on December 6, 1941.
Tony and Doug find themselves in the Japanese Consulate in Honolulu
and see Chief of Espionage Tasaka, his aide Okuno, and agent Sumida
burning files. Instantly looking at a calendar, they discover the date to be
December 6, 1941, and quickly leave the office. Tony was born in Pearl
Harbor and his father was lost in the sneak attack; now, perhaps he can
discover what happened to him. The two go to a Mrs. Neal's house, find
Tony's father and warn him that the Japanese are going to attack tomorrow.
Commander Newman at first doesn’t believe Tony is his son, but Tony
tells him things that a stranger couldn't know. When Doug and Tony leave
Mrs. Neal's, Sumida, who'd been informed of the pair's fore-knowledge,
ships them off to a warehouse, where Tasako and Okuno wait to sweat the
truth out of them, but they are unable to do so. The Commander has gone
to Naval headquarters to check on the truth of the prediction he's just received.
Meanwhile, the Time Tunnel has lost trace of Tony and Doug and they
realize that they must save the child Tony from tomorrow’s bombing or the
adult Tony may vanish. The Time Travellers solve the problem by breaking
out of the warehouse, then racing to Mrs. Neal's where they persuade her to
take little Tony and her son up to the mountains for safety. By now the attack
has started but they race to the Naval Yard where Tony's father is at the
radio. A barrage hits and Newman is struck. At this time, those in the
Time Tunnel see an unexploded bomb in the Naval Office. They can only
hold it for 90 seconds, but in the interim Newman has died and the Time
Travellers have left the office. As it blows up behind them, Tony knows
why his father was never found. With Mrs. Neal and the children safe, the
Time Travellers move back into the vortex of time.
