ATTACK OF THE BARBARIAN - by Robert Hamer
Tony and Doug are caught between the forces of Kublai Khan
under Marco Polo and the Mongol hordes.
Tony and Doug tumble into alien territory in time to see
dozens of horsemen plunge off a cliff. They find a shield
identifying the warriors as Mongols, the men of Genghis Khan.
Captured by them then, they are taken to the tent of Batu, their
leader, where Doug is rendered unconscious, while Tony is questioned
by Batu, who is the grandson of Genghis Khan. Mistaking Tony for one
of Marco Polo's men, Batu demands to know the weaknesses of the fort
where Marco Polo and his men are holding out. Tony is unable to give
him any information and Batu has him put on the rack. Receiving word
then of a victory from Marco Polo, he leaves to hunt him down. Doug
regains consciousness and manages to free Tony and drag him to safety.
While Ann, Kirk and Swain are trying to get an exact fix on Doug and
Tony, Marco Polo finds them. Doug manages to convince them that
Tony and he are friends, and are then taken to the fort. There Tony is
cared for by Sarit, a beautiful Eurasian girl. Meanwhile, Batu orders
his Captain to enter the fort and steal Sarit, daughter of Kublai Khan.
Marriage with her would give him command over all the Mongol tribes-
men and the empire of Genghis Khan can be his. Tony, who has fallen
for Sarit, takes a moon-light walk with her in spite of Doug's warning.
Batu's men slip over the wall, find them and forcefully abduct Sarit.
Tony returns to report the kidnapping. Determined to rescue her, Tony
and Doug in Mogol dress, borrow soma of Marco Polo's explosives, and
return to Batu's camp. Tony confesses that he's been thinking of spending.
the rest of his life here with Sarit. At the TunneI, Ann is trying to hold the
fix on the men and is deeply impressed by Tony's declaration of love.
Meanwhile Tony and Doug succeed in rescuing Sarit while Batu,
determined to take the fort, is gathering thousands of tribesmen for an
assault. Under a flag of truce, Batu offers to exchange the lives of
Marco Palo's men for Sarit, but he refuses, vowing to fight to the and,
but there is doubt he can hold out for long. Tony realizes he can be taken
from Sarit anytime and goes to say goodbye. The farewell is brief. Doug,
recognizing their desperate situation, borrows more of Marco Polo's
black powder, and fashions some home-made bombs. Kirk, watching the
Image Area, realizes they need fuses for their home-made artillery and is
successful in making a transfer through the Tunnel. Tony and Doug attach
the fuses and launch the explosives from catapults on the parapets as the
Mongols attack again. Batu is killed and the Mongols are turned back as
Doug and Tony disappear into the Vortex of Time.
