TOWN OF TERROR -- by Carey Wilber
The Time Travellers land in a New England town that has been
taken over by Aliens to drain earth's atmosphere of its oxygen.
The Time Travellers materialize in an alien control center and find themselves in a strange laboratory
built by aliens. One, a workman, steals up behind them with a wrench but the two manage to
fight him off, and find to their horror that a very slight blow has killed him. Seeking a way out,
the Travellers open a door and find themselves in the lobby of a typical New England hotel, the
date, September of 1970. They are met by a waspish little Sarah Pettinghill who soon turns into
Alien Sarah, a hideous Android, who immobilizes them. She is in charge of a project to remove
all of earth's oxygen and take it to another planet. To this end, she and her Androids have
immobilized everyone in town and set up laboratories for the project which begins in an hour. At
the Time Tunnel, Ann and Swain remove the pair from Alien Sarah's immediate reach, thus freeing
them from the freeze. They appear back in the lab and, trying to get out, find it is well sealed.
However, they manage to batter through nearly indestructible glass and get out. Unknown to them
a young couple, Joan and Pete, have managed to escape the Alien freeze and are watching with
mixed fear and hopefulness. Doug and Tony are soon set on by Androids in the guise of villagers
but escape them by running out of the village only to encounter a force-field set up by the Aliens.
The armed villagers are immediately upon them, but the pair manage to shoot them and the Aliens
disappear. Doug and Tony run back to the town where they then encounter Pete and Jean. The
four of them manage to reassure each other and plan then to destroy the Alien control center as
their only hope of averting disaster for the entire earth. Meanwhile, the Alien Leader, provoked
at the way the Time Travellers keep eluding him, orders the oxygen drained away from wherever it
is they Come from. The Tunnel is located and soon the oxygen is being siphoned out while the
panicked workers there begin to collapse. The situation at the Tunnel becomes desperate. Meanwhile,
Tony and Doug obtain some explosives and hurry them to the control center while a violent
storm caused by the draining of the earth's oxygen, has begun. With the last word from the Tunnel
that they are all lost, the two go to blow up the control center. Joan, hiding is approached by
Pete, who turns out to be an Alien as soon as she tells him where Tony and Doug are. The Alien
Pete rushes to stop the Time Travellers, but they are successful in fighting him off and blowing the
control center, thus stopping the oxygen drain and restoring those in the Tunnel. They are whirled
away from the recovered village and into the Vortex of Time.
